3 Wi' his blue bonnet on his head,
4 And his doggie runnin.
5 Yestreen about the gloamin time
6 I chanced to see him comin,
7 Whistling merrily the tune
8 That I am a' day hummin," quo' she,

10 "Fee him, faither, fee him," quo' she,
11 "Fee him, faither, fee him;

12 A' the wark about the house
13 Gaes wi' me whan I see him:
14 A' the wark about the house,
15 I gang sae lightly through it;
16 And though ye pay some merks o' geer,
17 Hoot! ye winna rue it," quo' she,
18 "No; ye winna rue it."
19 "What wad I do wi' him, hizzy?
20 What wad I do wi' him?
21 He's ne'er a sark upon his back,
22 And I hae nane to gie him."
23 "I hae twa sarks into my kist,
24 And ane o' them I'll gie him;
25 And for a merk o' mair fee,
26 O, dinna stand wi' him," quo' she,
27 "Dinna stand wi' him."
28 "Weel do I lo'e him," quo' she,
29 "Weel do I lo'e him,

30 The brawest lads about the place
31 Are a' but haverels to him.
32 O fee him, faither; lang I trow
33 We've dull and dowie been;
34 He'll haud the plough, thrash i' the barn,
